Medical volunteer opportunities in Ghana needed for More than 1 year
Opportunity Description: VPWA is currently recruiting volunteers to work in one of our health facilities assisting local doctors and nurses. The work of a medical volunteer will range from observational to basic assistance, depending on level of knowledge, experience, and skills. Most volunteers are likely to work in one of the 8 satellite community clinics in our program that offer general health care. However, other services provided include: - General Health Consulting - Child Welfare Clinic - Surgical Care - Family Planning - Nutritional Care - Cervix Care Community - Psychiatric clinic - Ante-Natal and Post-Natal Care - Dental Clinic. After an orientation meeting with the Health Directorate, volunteers are allocated according to local needs or own interests. Candidates are required to stay for a minimum of 4 weeks. This opportunity is open all year round. Candidates applying for this opportunity must be medical professionals or students of medicine at university or college level. However, if you are a prospective medial student and want to gain experience in the field, you are also welcome to apply - but you need to demonstrate strong commitment and competence. Other requirements include: • At least age 18 (no maximum age limit); • Good knowledge of English language • Strong commitment to values and principles of volunteerism; • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment; • Ability to adjust in difficult living and working conditions; • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Project fee: 400 EUR per month. Fees include: - Accommodation and meals. - Airport Pick Up. - Placement - 24 hour support contact services - Pre-departure Orientation. - Mobile phone SIM card number. - Accra City tour - Internet access (at VPWA's HQ). - Certificate of Recognition and an opportunity to serve as a VPWA ambassador in your city, college or community. The application process, interview and pre-departure information along with all administrative work is free of charge.

Volunteer Partnerships for West Africa (VPWA) is a volunteer-driven, non-profit NGO based in Accra (Ghana).

Our mission is to assist deprived communities through solution-oriented advice. We aim at empowering and providing people – especially young and disadvantaged groups – with the tools they need to become agents of pro-active change in our society.

VPWA embraces, supports and enacts the Principles of the UN Global Compact and our work aims at meeting the Millennium Development Goals. Therefore, not only do we defend an integrated approach to Sustainable Development but also focus on the following areas:

- Promotion of education to reduce illiteracy levels.
- Eradication of child labour.
- Campaigning for good governance and Human Rights observance.
- Support for clean energy and environmental policies.
- Micro-Finance, Entrepreneurship and Vocational training for those in need.
- Awareness campaigns on HIV/AIDS and other diseases addressed at communities as well as policy-makers.

Moreover, VPWA is a member of the United Nations Global Compact, United Nations Online Volunteering Service, the International Peace Council and the Coalition for International Criminal Court.
